The historic exhibition grounds that have hosted Milan Fair since 1923, occupy a surface area of 440,000 sq.m. One third of this area will become the City Complex, two thirds have been the object of an international tender that ended in July 2004 when the project was assigned to the CityLife consortium chosen among eight. Once redeveloped, the area will allow Milan to acquire the same polycentric role that is now a distinguishing feature of leading European capitals.
The New Complex
Milan Fair’s New Complex is taking shape on a reclaimed area in Rho-Pero that formerly hosted the Agip refinery, on the Milan-Malpensa route.
The project, which began on 6 October 2002, is self-funded and in 2005 will lead to the construction, of an imposing structure, with a gross floorspace of 530,000 square meters on a 2 million square meter site.
