The registration period opens for the eighth edition of the Veteco Asefave 2008 awards

The awards presentation ceremony and the exhibition of the winning works will take place throughout the course of the fair at Feria de Madrid, between 6th and 9th May 2008

These awards will recognise the Best Window, Best Light Façade, Best End-of-Degree Project and the Most Innovative Product

The VETECO ASEFAVE Awards will stage their eighth edition in order to mark the eleventh edition of the International Window, Curtain Walls and Structural Glass Trade Show, VETECO, which will take place between 6th and 9th May 2008.  With these awards, based on their different categories of Best Window, Best Light Façade, Best End-of-Degree Product and Most Innovative Product, both IFEMA - the body that organises the fair - and the Spanish Association of Window and Light Façade Manufacturers, ASEFAVE - the awards sponsor - will seek to recognise the excellent work that is carried out within the industry.

These awards represent an important impetus for this sector, which is characterised by its dynamic and highly competitive nature, with VETECO providing an ideal framework for their presentation as the industry's leading point of reference in Spain. The registration period has now opened for the contenders to enter their ideas (from among the products to be presented by the exhibiting companies at the fair). This period will end on 31st March 2008. The Jury will issue its verdict on 25th April next year, presenting the awards during the fair itself. All of the works that have been entered for the competition, including the winning works, will be placed on show in a special area set aside specially for this purpose.

The Competition will consist of four categories: in  the Window Category, the Jury will evaluate the architectural design and correct manufacture of the product and its works implementation, as well as its suitability to the corresponding habitat, respect for the environment and its contribution to achieving the building's overall energy efficiency and sustainability. The Jury will also focus on the quality guarantees provided by the manufacturer and the delivery and execution supervision at the work site itself. Three prizes will be presented: for the architect (6,000 euros and a diploma), for the manufacturer (accreditation in the form of a plaque) and for the systems manufacturer (accreditation in the form of a plaque). Those architects or site heads together with the manufacturers of the windows for building or renovation works done between June 2006 and the deadline for the presentation of works which expires on 31st March 2008 can participate in this category.

With regard to the Category for Best Light Façade, this category will feature exactly the same conditions, same financial prize and same contender profile, but relating in this case to light façades.

With regard to the Most Innovative Product Category, the Jury will evaluate research and innovation in exterior carpentry, design and implementation, respect for the environment, the project's suitability vis-à-vis its surrounding environment, and its contribution to the building's overall sustainability, aside from the quality guarantees provided during the design and production process.

Within all of the three categories, it is essential that the window or light façade product or component be exhibited at VETECO 2008. The exhibiting company whose product wins will obtain a plaque to mark the distinction.

In the last category, the prizes are awarded to the Best End-of-Degree Light Façade Product, featuring contenders from Architecture Schools throughout Spain, the rest of the European Union and Latin America. These projects must have been presented between April 2006 and 31st March 2006), based on a minimum "B" grade. In this case, members of the Jury will evaluate architectural design and harmony with regard to the surrounding environment, respect for the general environment and its contribution to the building's overall sustainability.
