Strongest and most international fashion tradeshow in Europe
Bright sunshine and summerly temperatures welcomed the visitors of BREAD & BUTTER BARCELONA on Wednesday, July 5th for the kick-off into the sales season. On the first day BBBarcelona already attracted more than 20.000 international trade visitors – final figures exceed the positive expectations.

BREAD & BUTTER BARCELONA has again underlined its status of being the strongest, most international and frequented fashion tradeshow of its kind in Europe. Karl-Heinz Müller: “We had expected an increase in visitor numbers compared to January but these figures exceed our expectations.” On the occasion of the press conference on Thursday, July 6th, Karl-Heinz Müller presented the future concepts for Barcelona. They will be realized starting from January 2007. Various independent formats are planned under the roof of Fashion Week Europe: the formats BREAD & BUTTER BARCELONA and veryKIDS will continue to take place on the known premises of Fira de Barcelona. The new format Upstairs will be hosted here as well in two new halls that haven’t been used up to now. They are situated beneath the Palao Nacional. BREAD & BUTTER BARCELONA involves the segments denim, sport & street, street culture and fashion. Upstairs is the format for luxury denim and upper urbanwear. The second lines of established designers should also find an adequate platform here. Dates for BBBarcelona, veryKIDS and Upstairs: Wednesday, January 17th – Friday, January 19th, 2007. A format for designers is also planned. At this point a definitive title cannot be announced. In addition to young designers and fresh, promising young talents established designers are in focus here. The concept does also foresee the integration of art, photography and architecture and will host catwalks, fashion shows, performances and special events. This format will not be realized on the known premises of Fira de Barcelona. Many locations all over the city of Barcelona that correspond to the specific needs and requirements of the target group are available. Karl-Heinz Müller: „Designers speak a different language – they don’t feel comfortable in the rough athmosphere of the halls at Fira de Barcelona. In order to address to their needs we will offer adequate locations to the designers. The countless architectural facets of Barcelona offer many opportunities and the city’s authorities have already confirmed a maximum support.” In order to underline the autonomy of this format it will be run by an independent team under the direction of Mirela Abadi. The entire communication will correspond to the needs of the target group – the format will be run from the “Belle Etage” of a wonderful town house in Barcelona’s district El Borne. Karl-Heinz Müller: “It is our goal to realize this format in January 2007. We are already negotiating with various designers. The scheduling depends on the results of these negotiations. Possibly we will take the time until July 2007 in order to secure a powerful first event.” The designer format is planned to take place from Thursday, January 18th – Saturday, January 20th, 2007. Depending on the demand for shows the event could be extended by another day and take until Sundays. In addition, Fashion Week Europe foresees the integration of an event dedicated to commercial international brands. For an event like this the new building of Fira de Barcelona, close to Barcelona airport, is available. Karl-Heinz Müller: „The overall concept of Fashion Week Europe corresponds to reality – it is the mirror of the complete contemporary clothing culture. This concept clearly differentiates the various segments and offers the brands, labels and designers the possibility to present themselves according to their needs, requirements and to their culture under a strong umbrella brand name and to take all advantages like the common time frame and place as well as the power of an international partner. Our definite goal is to establish Barcelona as a fashion metropolis in Europe.”
