Leipzig awarded top-notch congress

Following record performance in the last fiscal year with sales hitting EUR 3.8 million, Congress Center Leipzig can now announce another success. Between 2009 and 2017 the DDG German Diabetes Society is to stage its annual convention every other year in Leipzig. In odd years Leipzig will play host to the gathering, in even years Stuttgart.

"The annual DDG conference is one of the biggest and most important medical meets that Germany has to offer, attracting around 7,000 delegates. We are proud that the decision has been taken in favour of Leipzig," Josef Rahmen, chief executive of Leipzig Fair, declared. "With this sterling symposium Leipziger Messe has reinforced its expertise as a venue for medical congresses and exhibitions."
Rahmen gives much of the credit for the award to the CCL to the enormous commitment of Professor Dr. Wieland Kiess, director of the university clinic and the paediatric and youth polyclinic at Leipzig University and erstwhile DDG president.
"This gives us two reasons to celebrate. Not only does the DDG conference beginning in 2009 bring a regular convention highlight to Leipzig, but in 2009 Leipzig University also celebrates its 600th anniversary," Professor Kiess said. "The status of Leipzig and its university as a place of science are underscored by the placement of this major medical congress, which is a just reward for consistently good work."
