Automechanika almost fully booked up: more than 4,500 international exhibitors will be showing in Frankfurt Mood in the German sector definitely up-beat.

Automechanika 2006 is almost fully booked up. More than 4,500 international companies have registered and will be showing their latest products from 12 to 17 September 2006 in Frankfurt am Main. Many German exhibitors have extended their stand areas. “The mood in the run-up to Automechanika is very up-beat”, says Thomas Aukamm, Director of Automechanika. “Companies are expecting an upturn in the economy and anticipate good follow-up business after the fair. Many businesses are awaiting this leading trade fair before they invest. Numerous German companies, which are world champions when it comes to exports, are hoping for good contacts with abroad. With its international public, Automechanika is the right platform for this.” More than 160,000 trade visitors came to the last Automechanika, of whom more than 60,000 were from outside Germany. The organisers expect to see a further growth in international visitors, particularly from the growth markets of eastern Europe and Asia. The quality of trade visitors is very high: in a survey at Automechanika 2004, 50 percent of visitors stated they came from top management.
Automechanika is the largest international trade fair for the automotive industry. It covers the whole automotive value-added chain and is the platform ised by the installation and repair trade, the motor industry and the retail sector to find information on the latest innovations.  Over the past few years there have been major changes in the installation and repair trade: the proportion of electronic components in new cars has risen rapidly, and this has had far-reaching effects on the repair process. “Today”, continues Aukamm, “if you want to be permanently successful in the motor trade, you will have to invest in new, modern equipment.” Once again Automechanika 2006 will be the focus for innovations in the sector. Trends will include online diagnosis, alternative motive-power technologies, communication software, particle measurement, telematics and infotainment.
The product range at Automechanika is divided into four sections:
•Parts and systems
•Accessories and tuning
•Workshop equipment
•Equipment for filling stations.
Automechanika is the biggest “parts show” in the world, at which international dealers buy from international manufacturers. More than half of all exhibitors will be in the Parts & Systems section. International parts manufacturers seek partners worldwide from trade and industry. Many suppliers show their products at Automechanika not just for the after-market but also for original equipment. Equipment for filling stations has been given its own section for the first time in 2006. “We have emphasised the importance of this product section with great success”, says Aukamm. “There will be a very strong demand for filling-station equipment at Automechanika 2006; we have let more space than at the previous event.”
Once again this year there will be a whole group of automotive manufacturers at Automechanika. Toyota will be taking part in this international trade fair for the first time. Also showing in Frankfurt will be DaimlerChrysler, VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat and BMW. Manufacturers regard the fair as an opportunity to show their product range to a broader public and to build up their network of dealers and partners. The liberalisation of the market created by the new Group Exemption Regulation, says Aukamm, is a reason why more and more automotive manufacturers are using Automechanika as a platform.
Visitors to Automechanika come from all sections of the automotive industry: the installation and repair trade, retail sector, industry and services are all equally represented. Around a third of all visitors to Automechanika 2004 came from the repair and installation trade, and around a third from the retail sector. More than 21,000 trade visitors from the industry came to Frankfurt in 2004. The number of visitors from the industry has risen continually over the last few years.
Automechanika will be accompanied by a comprehensive fringe programme. Automechanika Innovation, the special show in the Foyer of Hall 4.1, will be featuring the new products entered for the Innovation Prize. The Original Equipment Forum and Aftermarket Forum will both be held as part of the Automechanika Academy. The first will analyse partnerships between automotive manufacturers and suppliers within the international structure, the latter will discuss the factors making for success in the motor trade and the effects of the right to set up businesses without restriction anywhere in the EU.
